6 years old…

…and the big day finally arrived!
After long discussions we came to a mutual understanding that the birthday theme would be fairytale/forrest-y/Pet Shop, a mash-up of everything to keep both mother and daughter happy 🙂
Then on a trip to Ikea, this bathmat turned out to be the inspiration for most of the decor.
HAMPEN motta B80xL80cm. Skærgrænt
So after some DIY-ing and featuring the bathmat prominetly, I give you the birthday party:
Start by showing some photos and maybe some more details further down the road…
…the bathmat was cut into three even strips and placed as a runner on the table, a little bit woodsy and reminded me of grass…
…chocolate cake with white fondant and woodland decor…
…the cake seen from all angels 😉 …
…love the little bird cages…
…all the little details…
…I always decorate the chandelier, and this time I used Smycka flowers from Ikea and some butterflies that I cut out by hand…
….I also found these little bluebirds and I adore them!
…wait for it, there is still plenty to come…

…I made the small fondant-mushrooms on the cake, and then had some small mushrooms “growing” from the table runner grass…
…and I when found these gorgeous mushroom candles I almost shrieked outloud in the store 😉
…and after placing them on the cake I could not have been more content….
…a little tip for birthday parties, I serve milk that I just add a little food coloring to and then, tadaa you have pink princess milk – always popular with the little girlies 🙂

…all the placesettings come from Ikea…
…and finally my beautiful birthday girl!

DIY – book page banner

I wanted to make a simple banner for Easter.
For those of you that are not fluent in my native Icelandic language: Páskar means Easter.
This is a super simple DIY.
First of all, print the letters on simple white paper and cut them out…
…use pages from old books, or even just pretty scrap-paper and glue the letters onto the page…
…punch some holes at the top of the pages and thred a string through the loops…
…And there you have it.  Easy DIY and this idea could be wonderful for birthdays and other parties 🙂
Ahhh and then I took some pictures of my hanging ester eggs in the daylight and wanted to share them with you…
…ribbon and some stickers…
I love simple DIY´s that are easy on the eyes and your budget!

Egg-citing…

I wanted to find some eggs for Easter to hang over the dining table.
Since I was having trouble finding the correct shade of blue I deceided to make them myself.
Wanna see what I came up with?
…I found this wonderful Martha Stewart paint in a local scrapstore  Skrapp og gaman, and its very apparent that Martha knows how to mix colors! They are also pearl glazed which means they look extra festive.
…and what did I paint you might ask?
I found these foam eggs in a craftstore, very inexpensive and light to hang, also easy to deocorate.
…and after all my painting I was left with this batch of freshly painted eggs …
..good job and matching my beautiful candle holders perfectly..
…I was happy with the result of using two different shades of blue…
..and now for the fun part – decorating the eggs:
…I pinned a floral ribbon around the egg and at the bottom I added crystals…
…I used a small hanging device to fasten the crystal, you might find that in the jewlery-making-department at the craft store…
…here you can see all my stash, what I had to work from…
…including crystals…
…and flowers…
…and all sorts of decorative pins, with both crystals and pearls…
…and overlooking all my madness…
…but the end results were quite pleasing…
….all sorts of variations…
…I also deceided to use my distress ink that I bought in Skrapp og gaman….
…and my trusty script-stamp…
…and that worked out fine…
…all the eggs were hanged with a small ribbon that I looped and fastened with a crystal pin…
Then I have to sing the praises of my butterfly punch…
This one is from EK Success and I have to say that I find him to be perfect.  The size of the butterflies is just right.
…it just might be that you would find a butterfly-shaped-hole in most papers around the house these days,
it just might be 😉
…and therefore I deceided to add some butterflies to he chandelier, just to make sure that the eggs would not be lonely…
…and then the final results…
…some had flowers, others did not…
…here I added some crystal stickers, bought in  Skrapp og gaman….
So how do you like them?
…Are they as egg-citing to you as they are to me?

Nesting…

…I do love wreaths, and they  do remind me of spring…
So I deceided to venture into my garden and cut down some branches to make one for the fireplace.
And up it goes…
…and seeing that Easter is comming I used a pair of lovely birds that I had, lying in their nest along with some eggs and placed them into the wreath…
…very simple…
…I used a string that I already had, took down the mirror and looped the string around the nail in the wall, before rehanging the mirror…
…so I deceided to use apples and lemons to bring some bright colors, and to make it more sping-y…
…instead of using candles in the candle holders I  simply placed faux-apples on top…
…and apples and lemons were put into the glass dome as well…
…I like it, its spring-y and a little bit of Easter, but not too much 🙂

Roll up your pages…

….I bought an old torn up book at Goodwill…
…and created my bookpage-butterflies…
…but seeing that I still had alot of pages left, I got a brilliant idea while looking at my favorite Ikea-lamp…
…so I deceided to roll up a few pages and placed a small tape onto them and la voila…
…I like this look…
…very easy and adds a whole new look to my lamp 🙂

French it up…

I deceided to check out one of my local thrift stores and there I found my new friend.
He was not much to look at, but I saw potential…
I tried to fix the old drillholes…
…and then I picked up a can of black spray paint 😉
…and after my “special treatment”…
…you have to pardon the christmas madness, but the pictures were taken at christmas time!
..I deceided to use some black electrical tape to “french” it up, very simple but I do love the results…
..so you likes?
…even up close you cant really see that this is just tape…
…J´taime!

Tray chic..

I have to admit that I do have a thing for trays.  Dont know why but its my thing 🙂
I bought a white wooden tray the other day and it is such a lovely way to display the all sorts of goodness…
Here you can find a book, my Iittala Alvar Aalto vase, some candleholders and the globes that I got at Crate and Barrel…

My little lady..

When my little girl (who is now 6 years old ) was born we had a nursery ready.  It was ever so pink and if I had to do it again today it would pretty different.  But at the time I was very happy with it – and looking back I still kinda love it because of the way it made me feel.  It was such a happy time bringing that little girl home so how could I feel anything but love……mooshy mooshy.
The bed is from a local store and the dresser is of course Ikea.
The teddiebear used to belong to me and is wearing a tutu, the lamp is classic Pooh..
Just look at those tiny little dresses…
I used a blanket from Ikea and made the lining into the baskets (also Ikea)
This birdie-mobile was one of her favorite toys, she could lay in her bed and watch it for ever…
That little fluffy dog is now a grayish color, he is her all time favorite and she still sleeps with him by her side…
There were basic Ikea track lights ob the ceiling and I made a butterfly-wire-“cage” and put around them.  It cast beautiful shadows all round…
Lovely little butterfly knobs, bought at Target…

The little man´s nursery..

so my littie man has a nursery in the making.  I deceided to keep the wall in the dark chocolate brown that really added some warmth to the room.  Also we had a dresser that we re-used.  So the main colors were brown, light lime green and light blue.
And like in so many other nurseries these days there are owls, there are owls and a lot of them.
So here is the 1st of many posts on the nursery:
The bed is from a brand called Small World, the bumper is Dwell and the quilt is Circo…
 The shelf is by Ikea
The alphabet is a small DIY project, as well as the Owl
Classic Pooh and his pals watch over the little baby boy
The blue canvases have wall decals on them, Circo from Target
….and then at last: the sweet little guy who lives in the room.
